The Awami League has revealed its chosen candidates for the upcoming 12th National Parliament Election. Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the Awami League, unveiled the list of nominees at the party’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, today at approximately 4 pm.
This announcement signals a notable change, as 71 members of parliament who secured their seats in the 11th national parliament election under the Awami League’s banner have not been nominated by the party this time. The Awami League’s release of the nominated candidates for the 12th National Assembly elections today highlights a shift, wherein among the 262 existing party members of parliament, 190 have been endorsed by the party, while 71 have been omitted from the list after a thorough review.
In the 19 constituencies spread across four districts within the Sylhet division, fresh candidates have emerged in eight areas. Notably, incumbent parliamentarians have been replaced in one out of six constituencies in Sylhet, two out of four in Moulvibazar, two out of four in Habiganj, and three out of five in Sunamganj. The party has nominated eight newcomers to stand in lieu of the outgoing representatives in these constituencies.
