Metro Rail to Operate Day-Night from Uttara to Motijheel Round the Clock Starting January 20th
Starting from January 20, the Metro Rail will run from Uttara to Motijheel throughout the day. This information was revealed in a press conference held at the Expatriate Welfare Building in Eskaton, the capital, on Thursday afternoon. Md. Enamul Hoque Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the operator of Metro Rail, provided these details at the press conference.
According to Md. Enamul Hoque Siddique, the Metro Rail will operate from Uttara to Motijheel in the same manner as it currently runs from Uttara to Agargaon. Starting from this Saturday (January 20), the first Metro Rail from Uttara will depart at 7:00 am and run every 10 minutes until 8:40 pm. The service will be available throughout the day, with the last train departing from Motijheel at 8:40 pm and reaching Uttara in 33 minutes and 6 seconds.

The Shahbag and Karwan Bazar stations of the Metro Rail were inaugurated on December 31. With this, all 16 stations from Diabari on MRT-6 line to Motijheel are now operational. Previously, Metro Rail services from Agargaon to Motijheel operated from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, and from Uttara to Agargaon from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. However, starting from January 20, Metro Rail services will run from Uttara to Motijheel from 7:00 am to 8:40 pm, providing a convenient transportation option for the residents of the city.
Regarding the Metro Rail’s operation during the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, Md. Enamul Hoque Siddique mentioned that during the book fair, the Metro Rail will halt at Dhaka University station until 10:00 pm. He further explained that the decision to extend operating hours beyond the specified time would be considered if there is a demand for late-night travel during that period.
In conclusion, the Metro Rail’s extended operating hours from Uttara to Motijheel will enhance the convenience and accessibility of this transportation service, offering a significant improvement in the city’s public transportation system.
